Sono lieto di presentare la mostra collettiva "Nello Spazio della Croce" frutto di una collaborazione tra la Galleria Melori & Rosenberg e la parrocchia di San Salvador, che ora prosegue il suo cammino nella Chiesa di San Rocco.E' un esempio del fatto che a Venezia è possibile realizzare insieme iniziative culturali che bene si innestano nel tessuto cittadino e arricchiscono la vita della Città..

E' un'attualissima mediatico passionis Christi quella che ci offre la mostra "Nello spazio della Croce", ospitata ora dalla chiesa di San Rocco dopo la prima esposizione presso la Chiesa di San Salvador ad aprile 2010.
Significativo il paragone con il celebre crocefisso di Giotto di Bondone della Chiesa di Santa Maria Novella a Firenze, che alla fine del Duecento segnò un'innovazione concettuale nella tradizionale iconografia europea raffigurando un Cristo con sembianze più umane. Un crescente realismo artistico che all'epoca puntava a un maggiore coinvolgimento emotivo dello spettatore...
Dodici Crocefissi, dunque, quali trasposizione ideale dell'opera giottesca,dai quali traspare manifestamente quella Afficio descritta da Guillaume Durand alla fine del Duecento, che ci impressiona ed emoziona a un tempo.

Proporre all'arte contemporanea di "riempire" un luogo così carico di storia e simbologia, com'è lo " spazio " della croce cristiana, può apparire una provocazione ma allo stesso tempo anche un atto di autentica fiducia. Si provoca al confronto stringente con l'emblema dell'iconografia cristiana per eccellenza - qui potentemente evocata dalla sagoma del noto crocifisso di Giotto - e si accetta il rischio che l'opera contemporanea si ponga in antitesi - apparente o reale - rispetto alla teo-logia di cui il crocefisso è icona.
Ma senza la disponibilità ad accettare sfide e mettersi in gioco pubblicamente, come Hanno fatto questi dodici artisti , la fiducia e le manifestazione di stima - anche quelle espresse dai papi a partire dal Consiglio II da sole non poterebbero alla creazione di nuove opere d'arte per gli uomini del nostro tempo....

It is a fine example of what can be achieved in Venive when cultural initiatives, grafthed into the social reality of the city, enrich the life of the City itself.

We are offered a present-day meditatio Passionis Christi while visiting the collective exhibition "Within the Space of the Cross",now hosted by the Church of San Rocco, after its first step at Church San Salvador in April 2010.
It is interesting to compare this exhibition with the famous crucifix by Giotto di Bondone in the Church of Santa Maria Novella in Florence; a significant painting that at the end of the thirteenth century marked a conceptual breakthrough in traditional European iconography by depicting Christ with greater human detail and realism. A growing artistic realism which in that period of history was seeking to achieve greater emotional involvement in the viewer..
Twelve crucifixes, therefore, seen as an ideal transposition of the work of Giotto, from which emerge clearly that Afficio described by Guillaume Durand at the end of the thirteenth century, which impresses and moves us at once.

To even consider proposing to contemporary art the idea of 'filling' a structural representation so steeped in history and symbolism, as is the 'space' of the Christian cross, may seem a provocation with the Christian emblem of the famous crucifix by Giotto - and to accept the inherent risk that contemporary art work may be in opposition - apparent or real - to the theology of which the crucifix is an icon. But without the willingness to accept challenges and get involved publicly, as these twelve artists have, the trust shown and the manifestations of esteem - also by the Popes after Vatican II - would not be sufficient to ensure the creation of new works of art for the men and womenof our time...
